SPL South Park Branch: Youth Mural Project
October 2nd – October 30th (5-7pm)

Seattle Public Library and The South Park Branch are recruiting youth artists for a mural inside the South Park Library with local artist Angelina Villalobos. Hosted Wednesday nights for the month of October, this is an excellent opportunity for volunteer hours, a creative outlet, community involvement, and a chance to add your ideas to public art. Come say hi 👋🎨!

Wednesday Evenings 5PM -7PM

Inspired by the Book, Maybe Something Beautiful reveals how art can inspire transformation—and how even the smallest artists can accomplish something big. Watch ONLINE. Available in English and Spanish .

Goal: Community reflection on our home along the Duwamish and the cultural ties unique to our neighborhood.

TIMELINE:
 SEPT 23rd – 28th: Recruiting / Info: Community Outreach to schools and community centers

OCT 2nd: Meet / Icebreakers / Intro to Concepting inspired by book. Creating sketches and drawings based on collective ideas.

OCT 9th: Additional concepting and putting together sketches for final mural submission.

OCT 16th: Sketch Approval Submitted. Work on edits to submission based on feedback. If approved PAINTING  🎉

OCT 23rd: Painting Session. Continue to work on painting.

OCT 30th: Final Painting Session, continue to work on painting.

About the Instructor (onesevennine.com) Angelina Villalobos, pseudonym 179 grew up in Seattle, Washington within a mosaic of cultures and ideas. Having been raised Americanized Mexican Catholic, Angelina’s work mixes the iconography of Catholicism with pop culture to folklore. This union, influenced by being raised in the Pacific Northwest in the 90’s is an intimate exemplification of her personal pursuit of understanding the world around her.
